How to remove filler words, pauses and retakes

Clean up ums, long pauses, dead air and repeated takes with one request.

Steps

  1. Ask in chat, for example: "Remove the filler words like um and uh, and tighten any long pauses."
  2. Novacut checks the transcript of the edit and removes what it finds, keeping b-roll and other lanes in sync.
  3. The reply says what was removed. If there was nothing to remove, it says so.

More prompts

  • "Remove dead air longer than half a second."
  • "Cut the false starts and keep the best take of each line."
  • "Remove the setup at the beginning before I start talking."

Tips

  • Fillers are never cut halfway; a word is either kept or removed whole.
  • Listen to the result. If a cut feels abrupt, ask: "Leave a little more breathing room after each sentence."
  • Undo reverts the whole cleanup in one step.
