How to export your project to DaVinci Resolve

Download a Resolve-ready FCPXML and relink it to your original footage.

Novacut exports an FCPXML made for DaVinci Resolve that links to your original, full-resolution files.

Before you start

  • Put all the videos and images you uploaded directly in one folder (no subfolders), with their original file names.
  • Copy that folder's path: macOS · Windows.

In Novacut

  1. Open the Export tab and scroll to Editor project files.
  2. Click DaVinci Resolve (.fcpxml).
  3. Paste the folder path and click Use This Folder.
  4. A ZIP downloads. Extract it before importing. It contains the FCPXML, any music used in the edit, an SRT when captions are on, and an IMPORT.txt with notes.

In DaVinci Resolve

  1. Choose File › Import › Timeline… and select the .fcpxml.
  2. Keep the default import settings.
  3. If Resolve asks for media, point it to the same folder. You can also add the folder under Preferences › Media Storage.
  4. Play the timeline through.

What carries over

Cuts, clip order, lanes, transitions, speed changes, keyframed position and size, blend modes, images and music. Captions come in as styled titles, and the SRT carries the same text for a subtitle track. Graphics and effects are not included.

Troubleshooting

  • Clips offline: check the drive is connected and the folder hasn't been moved or renamed.
  • Wrong frame rate: the timeline uses your project's frame rate. Check the timeline settings in Resolve.
