How to make a soccer highlight video
A soccer highlight video should show the season the way it felt: goals with their build-up, saves, great passes and tackles, the celebrations, and, for a team video, every player at least once. Keep a team video to 1–3 minutes (15–30 seconds for social), cut it to an upbeat track, and open and close on the team. For a single player's recruiting video, go 3–5 minutes with position-specific plays first. Here's what to include and a real U10 team example.
What to keep
- Goals, with the build-up. Start the clip two or three passes earlier.
- Saves, and the keeper's reaction.
- Passes and tackles that changed the play. Coaches and players notice these.
- Celebrations and huddles. For a youth team, these matter more than the score.
- Every player at least once.
By position (for a player video)
| Position | Plays to show |
|---|---|
| Goalkeeper | Shot-stopping, 1v1s, crosses claimed, distribution |
| Defender | 1v1 defending, headers won, interceptions, playing out from the back |
| Midfielder | First touch, passing range, switching play, transition hustle |
| Winger / forward | Beating defenders, off-ball runs, crosses, finishing |
How we made a team video
21 phone clips became a youth soccer season highlight, then one message added a crest, slow motion and a stadium anthem. Sped up. Phone-size version.
Make a 45-second highlight video of our U10 soccer team's season for the end-of-season party. Open on a title card "Lions U10 · 2026 season", then the best runs, shots, saves and celebrations, cut to the beat of an upbeat track from the music library. Use each clip once, and end on the team walking off the field with "Thanks for an amazing season, coaches and parents".
Every cut landed on a downbeat of a 125 BPM track, which keeps a fast sport feeling fast. A second message added a team crest, half-speed slow motion with ramps on the best kick and celebration, a stadium anthem with its drop on the first kick, a stat card and a freeze-frame ending. The version for Instagram
Reframe each shot so the kids and ball stay in the 9:16 frame, and keep text out of the bottom fifth. Reels guide →
Filming tips for parents
- Stand high and wide (top of the bleachers) for plays; get close for celebrations.
- Film horizontally, and keep recording through the whole attack.
- Use a phone grip or lean on something; shaky footage is hard to use.

How do I make a highlight video of just my kid?
Upload clips where they're clearly visible, describe them ("number 7, red boots") and ask for that player's plays only, with a name card at the start. If the shot is wide, a quick freeze with an arrow or circle before each play shows coaches who to watch.
Should I include losses?
For a team season video, yes: effort, celebrations and good plays from tough games are part of the season. Leave the scoreline off if it helps.
